I Want to Make a Babette Blanket

Filed under: Cool Stuff, Projects, Random Musings, Things I Love — designonpost @ 8:24 pm

During my travels through the blogosphere I stumbled across this post on the Adorn Blog.  I’d never heard of or seen a Babette Blanket before but since seeing the one on the Adorn Blog and many others on the Flickr Pool, I’m hooked (no pun intended) and have to make one!  Only one problem…I haven’t crocheted in uh…about 20 years?  And when I did crochet, I made about 10 rows of a baby blanket for my cousin who is now 19 and has a child of her own.  So, my new goal is to reteach myself how to crochet, learn how to make granny squares and then learn how to block them and stitch them together.  Anyone have some great links to teach me how to do all that stuff or for supplies or tools?

  1. Go for it! The square pattern is a really basic one–all you need to know is the double crochet, slip stitch, and how to change yarn colors. The pattern is in the Spring 2006 issue of Interweave Crochet. Most people seem to like Debbie Stoller’s book, Stitch n’ Bitch: The Happy Hooker, for beginning lessons and fun patterns. A good online crochet how-to source is http://www.nexstitch.com/a_articles.html. They also have some videos. Good luck.

  2. You should go for it!!! Rina is right, the square is so basic! I’m working on the blanket myself and it is so addictive!
